April 6, 2010 - Marilyn Monroe

The 20th Century highlighted some lasting moments in history – milestones worthy of praise, and dates shrouded in remorse.  While the list is extensive, very few are remembered… this story begins June 1st, 1926 in Los Angeles California.  Born Norma Jeane Mortensen, this iconic gem would remain concealed for more than 20 years before admirers would take notice.  She was a “photographer’s dream,” her blue eyes, blonde hair, and sensual curves formed a perpetual standard.  Her appearances in popular magazines and presence on the silver screen balanced a dream she would grow to love.  Through the course of her short lived career, colleagues openly express their connective experiences and lasting impressions to a lady we affectionately call: Marilyn Monroe.

“Marilyn’s a phenomenon of nature, like Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon.  All you can do is stand back and be awed by it.” ~ Nunnally Johnson, producer of How to Marry a Millionaire

I hope you enjoy these commemorative quotes and candid treasures we still find enchanting today.
"She was pure of heart. She was free of guile. She never understood either the adoration or the antagonism which she awakened."  ~ Edward Wagenknecht
"Marilyn is a kind of ultimate. She is uniquely feminine. Everything she does is different, strange, and exciting, from the way she talks to the way she uses that magnificent torso. She makes a man proud to be a man."  ~ Clark Gable
"She had a great natural dignity and was extremely intelligent. She was also exceedingly sensitive."  ~ Edith Sitwell, poet
It is said that Marilyn Monroe deliberately had her stiletto heels adjusted.  One heel was made shorter than the other so that she swayed and sashayed as she walked.  Her swaying hips helped make her appear more vulnerable, increasing her sex appealfashion-era.com
"She seemed very shy, and I remember that when the studio workers would whistle at her, it seemed to embarrass her."  ~Cary Grant, co-star in Monkey Business
"She went right down into her own personal experience for everything, reached down and pulled something out of herself that was unique and extraordinary. She had no techniques. It was all the truth, it was only Marilyn. But it was Marilyn, plus. She found things, found things about womankind in herself." ~John Huston, director of The Asphalt Jungle and The Misfits
I share in this thoughtful reverence… her life fascinates me – Marilyn’s fame and sexual image became a haunting theme to personal relationships- marilynmonroe.com  Her appreciation for Sinatra, Bloomingdales, Chanel No.5, and a bottle of Dom Perignon portrays glimpses of her inner soul.  The lady had sensational class and intelligence…. Monroe’s gifts impacted the world - a ripple effect we still feel today.  My glass is raised to a life of purpose and originality!
